Ooh Halloween is upon us. All Hallows’ Eve, the Pagan festival of Samhain. It is a cross quarter day, half way between the Autumn Equinox and the Winter Solstice. So just over 6 weeks to Christmas folks!
Halloween is a time of embracing the dark, so look out for spooks tonight! I am quite sad to say that at 14 my son has outgrown trick or treat. When he was little I loved going round the village with him. They have a great system here, if you want trick or treaters you leave a lit pumpkin visible and wait for the knocking to begin. We live down quite a dark lane and hardly ever get trick or treaters ‘cos its too scary! We used to get the neighbours’ kids when they were young, but since they have become teenagers I gave up buying sweets and munching them all.
Also today Mercury planet of communication is turning retrograde beginning its third journey of the year into the underworld. Moving from evening ‘star’ to morning ‘star’. Some people find this a frustrating time as Mercury tends to move into his trickster mode at this time and communications can get tangled and messages can go astray. Delays are also likely and short journeys may turn into long ones. Round here we seem to have quite a few road works and diversions which cause confusion and delays!

Today Venus planet of love is conjunct (at the same degree of the zodiac) as Mercury, planet of communication. They are both in the mysterious sign of Scorpio so you may find out secrets today or discover hidden information. It is a good time for private chats with a loved one. On our recent trip to Corfu we visited The Achilleion Palace and found Venus posing in the hall way. I couldn’t resist a photo!

It’s Monday morning and a new moon in Scorpio. So another lunar month starts, leading us into the dark months and this week we have Halloween. I am still adjusting to normal life after a holiday in beautiful Corfu. We were so lucky to have a week of fantastic weather and we have returned to Norfolk sunkissed and midge nibbled!
Our hotel faced West over the Ionian Sea and each evening we were treated to beautiful sunsets. I got very excited last Saturday evening as we managed to get a seat on the balcony and I saw the planet Venus twinkling in the afterglow before she sunk into the sea. It was the first time I had seen it in its evening ‘star’ position as it is just reappearing after sunset but is still quite tricky to spot at the moment. As time continues it will get brighter and easier to see.
The afterglow of the sunset, Venus was shimmering coyly in the haze.
We can’t escape the fact that here in the northern hemisphere winter is on its way. Today the sun moves into Scorpio to join Venus and Mercury. This is the time of year of endings when the frosts are coming and the vegetation is dying back and we are preparing for the dark nights. The clocks go back at 2am on Sunday 27th October, which is this coming Sunday. Halloween and bonfire night are just around the corner… Here is my article about Scorpios in ‘Lets Talk’ magazine.
It’s a full moon tonight, I’ve just popped out to have a look, it is quite dramatic with dark scudding clouds crossing its face. It rose at 18:36 just after sunrise and will be exactly full tonight at 22:07.
The sun is still in Libra so the full moon is in its opposite sign of Aries. Situations often come to a head at full moon and this one is in passionate Aries so they are likely to do so quickly and directly. It is also square Pluto and Saturn so there could well be tension in the air. This is a time of letting go of habits that no longer serve us, a time to be courageous and express who we truly are!
It’s feeling autumnal here, it’s quite chilly and has been wet. I’ve cleared the allotment of the last of the beans and courgettes and will tackle the tomatoes in the poly tunnel soon. The sun is in Libra and will be until October 23rd but we certainly have a tinge of Scorpio in the air! Mercury planet of communication moved into Scorpio a week ago and Venus, planet of love joined him in the sign of mystery and intrigue on Tuesday October 8th. Venus is not too happy in Scorpio, it is the opposite sign to Taurus which is ruled by Venus. Astrologers say that Venus in Scorpio is in detriment.
Venus in Scorpio is courageous, mysterious and highly passionate. With mercury in the mix, look out for secrets coming to light.

Yesterday’s talk ‘The Mysterious Moon’ seemed to go down well with the group in Norfolk. I had quite a few people come up and say that they enjoyed it, which is always encouraging. The group were very welcoming and helpful and I stayed for a very tasty lunch. I do appreciate food that I haven’t had to cook!
Sunday 6th October
I’m happy to say that yesterday’s meeting of the Norfolk Astrological Association at Guist Post Office went off well and we had 8 people attend. We looked at progressions and solar returns and I hope I didn’t addle too many brains! Thank you to everyone who came along. Next month we will be meeting on the first Saturday in November- Saturday 2nd November 1.45 – 3.45pm in our usual place, Guist Post Office and Cafe. Joyce will be choosing a topic for us. When I hear from her I will post the details.
