Sunday 20th January – Saturday 26th January

Monday 21st January 2019

Uh oh, don’t you just love the British weather!? After that beautiful moon early on last night, the cloud curtains came over Norfolk ! I did get up at 5am – very noisily, I dropped the alarm clock, so I was not popular. Then after all that fuss it was all cloudy and I couldn’t see the eclipse. Never mind! I enjoyed seeing the photos from other people who were luckier than us weather wise.

Astrologically the moon was in early Leo – opposite the sun in early Aquarius. The sun moved into Aquarius yesterday. This axis is about self love and love for others. It is time to express our individuality whilst also finding our place in society- time to shine.

As the sun is now in Aquarius for a month, I’d like to wish all Aquarians a happy birthday for their upcoming solar returns.

Sunday 20th January 2019

It’s the lunar eclipse tomorrow morning, Monday 21st January when the moon turns red. Totality is at  5.11 am GMT and I am aiming to get up to see it, but the forecast is partly cloudy so I may be disappointed, still I will try. I’m also hoping to see Jupiter and Venus rising in the South East. Will I wake up in time and will the weather comply??!

Saturday 19th January 2019

My son and I had a great time tonight, we went Wassailing at Swaffham at the Escape allotment and orchard. It was all a bit of an adventure, as we didn’t know where we were going! We went the long way round in the dusk and were a little bit late as a consequence, but followed the shouting and drumming in to the orchard. It was beautiful , all lit up with lots of lanterns and tea lights in jam jars. We found the wassail and joined in at the back! I put the last piece of bread dipped in apple juice as an offering to the apple trees for this year’s crop. We then made lots of noise to chase away the evil spirits who might steal the apples. An effigy of last year’s goddess was set alight and this year’s goddess, with ample bosoms and belly was filled with apples and wishes for the coming year. We stood round the fire listening to live music. It was great!

I am excited to announce I have a new event coming up here in Norfolk. I am working in collaboration with yoga teacher Gini Harrison at Kelling Studio near Holt. We are having an interactive session on Saturday 23rd March 2019 to tap into the regenerative energy of the Spring Equinox. I will give an introduction to the signs of the zodiac in relation to the year. I will then look at the themes for this year’s equinox. This will be followed by a yoga practice led by Gini tailored towards harnessing the energy to welcome the spring.

Thursday 17th January 2019

Did you know that the days of the week are associated with gods? In astrology, Thursday is associated with Jupiter, he was the Roman king of the gods and the god of thunder. This is reflected in the names for Thursday in the romance ( Latin based) languages. For example, French is Jeudi, Spanish is Jueves and Italian is Giovedi as in Jove, another name for Jupiter.

The English names for the days of the week reflect our mixed (mongrel) heritage. Thursday is ‘Thor’s day’ the Norse god of Thunder.

Jupiter is a lucky planet and Thursday is considered a lucky day. Here’s wishing you some luck today.😃😃

Tuesday 15th January

To all you moon and planet watchers, next week is a good week for observing the sky. You may have heard that we have a lunar eclipse coming up soon, I mentioned it here the other day, but it is worth repeating as it looks to be a good one. This is happening on Monday 21st January. It is visible here in the UK (weather permitting as ever!) but we will need to get up early.

The best viewing time is from 4:41am – 5:43am GMT this is when the moon is covered by the earth’s shadow. It goes a beautiful red, and that is why it is known as a ‘blood moon’. Exact totality is at 05.11 GMT and the show ends at 7.48am GMT. The moon sets at 8.09am GMT so that is good timing as long as the clouds stay away! Also, this moon is a ‘super moon’ as the media call it, this means it is as its closest point, or perigee to use the astronomical term.

As an added bonus, Venus and Jupiter will be rising in the South East early on the 21st and as they move up into the sky should make a beautiful pair, they are very close together. They will be exactly conjunct at the same degree of Sagittarius on Tuesday 22nd January.

Jupiter and Venus are visible early in the morning at the moment and I’ve been peering out of the bathroom window for a few mornings now trying to see Jupiter and it’s been too cloudy. I have seen Venus on a couple of occasions this week, always a pleasure! Here’s wishing for some clear skies for Monday morning in particular.

Sunday 13th January 2019

The moon is in Aries today and is almost at first quarter, it makes its monthly meet up with Mars, the red planet. They are both visible now – it has gone clear here in Norfolk which is good (necessary) for planet spotting. Mars is to the West (right) of the moon.

Today, Venus planet of love, attractiveness and relationships is moving generous, enthusiastic Sagittarius. It is making a trine – a positive aspect to Mars, planet of energy and action in Aries. Both Sagittarius and Aries are fire signs, enthusiastic and passionate. This is a good time to do what you enjoy, particularly when it comes to relationships. Time to have some fun!

Thursday 10th January 2018

The waxing moon is now in Pisces, but I don’t think we will get to see her in Norfolk this evening as the weather is very grey and miserable. The sun, (who we haven’t seen at all today) is in Capricorn, sign of business and authority. It is moving closer to Pluto, planet of change and transformation. They will be conjunct at the same degree tomorrow the 10th January. Pluto moves very slowly, it takes 248 years to orbit the sun. It has been moving through Capricorn since 2008. The sun illuminates issues, so it will be interesting to see if anything comes to light tomorrow. Mercury, the communication planet has moved into Capricorn and will catch Pluto up on the 18th January, so look out for news around that time.

Wednesday 9th January

It’s been a stormy day here in Norfolk, I’ve seen two rainbows. The waxing moon is in sociable, freethinking Aquarius until 19.43. I have been making plans about group activities today which are all very exciting! Watch this space for news…

The moon is now visible in the South West, it is setting and will descend below the horizon soon, at 18.37 tonight. So if you would like a peek, pop out now or in the next few minutes before it disappears from view.

Tuesday 8th January 2019

Today, Mars planet of action in Aries is square (making a tense aspect to) Mercury the communication planet. I have been feeling quite scattered today, perhaps that is why it’s taken me until 9 pm to post this. Uh oh, well, I have managed to make some necessary phone calls and emails.
Mercury is speedy so this square lasts around a week and it is good for getting your message across and doing what you keep saying you will. Under this aspect, it can be quite easy to upset people without meaning to, so thinking before you act or speak is a good idea. (something I have to remind myself of!)

Mercury also rules short journeys, so give yourself a bit of extra time as everyone may be in a bit of a rush at the moment!

Monday 7th January 2019

Today, Venus planet of love, attraction and all things nice is moving into excitable, generous Sagittarius. It moved into deep, mysterious Scorpio in September and had a bit of a backwards dance into Libra throughout November before returning to Scorpio in December. Now with Venus’ move into Sagittarius,  the emotional tempo should change to feel lighter and more upbeat, but watch out for temptation; Sagittarius is not the most restrained of signs! (Speaking as one who knows…😉)

Sunday 6th January 2019

Today, Uranus, planet of change and rebellion turns direct. So now all the planets are direct, this is the first time this has happened for 10 months, 2018 saw quite a lot of retrograde planets, particularly in the summer. So that was a time of delays, backtracking and introspection. Now we can start to look forward!
