Mercury, planet of communication has been in retrograde(appearing to go backwards) in the sky from January 5th until Sunday January 24th. As I’ve said before I quite like Mercury retrograde times as they are good for contemplation, but they are not always good for straightforward free flowing communication! Things can get lost or delayed when Mercury is retrograde.
That’s what happened in our household. My husband runs an internet business and posts parcels all over the world. One to Canada went astray and last week he was trying to trace it, I said to him that things should be more free flowing from Monday 25th January as Mercury is going direct again. Also, my son lost one of his pictures; he spends hours drawing lots of little detailed characters and gets very involved. I was accused of throwing it away…me? Surely not! I couldn’t remember if I had or not.
Well on Monday, the day Mercury turned direct, and able to act in his usual swift manner, both the parcel and the picture showed up. Brilliant!
I was recently reading an article by Donna Cunningham in The Mountain Astrologer, which is an excellent American astrology magazine. Donna has a fantastic blog called Skywriter full of great articles including a series of tests which you can do to see the planetary influences in your birth chart.
Each planet has its own test, the sun and moon have higher points than the other planets as they have the most influence in a birth chart. Basically, you need a copy of your birth chart including an aspect table then you follow the test awarding yourself points as instructed.
I wasn’t surprised to discover that my highest scoring planet was the moon; I have moon in Cancer, and it makes loads of aspects to other planets in my chart. However, I was amazed at the score – 85 points. This is mega high considering as Donna rates over 40 as “off the charts!” I did check it, I am a Sagittarius, and we are inclined to be a little slap dash at times… but even so. Eighty five!! I was heartened to know that there are other very lunar people out there.
As a lunar type I am caring, home loving, and nurturing. I am also intuitive and instinctual, but not too clever when it comes to logic as my Gemini husband will confirm – with exasperation. I’ve learnt (often the hard way) that if I listen to my intuition and act on it – Cancer is a sign of action – then I will be fine.
However, if I try and think my way out of things – or really just try and justify my own or others’ actions – then I get in a muddle! So my new year’s promise to myself is to follow my intuition and not just ignore it!
If you would like to have a go with the tests then follow this link to Skywriter tests and join in the fun.
Happy astro exploring, Claire
Happy New Year. I hope you had a good year in 2015. I’m looking forward to 2016. New Year provides a good opportunity to reflect on the recent past and plan for the next twelve months or so.
The sun is always in Capricorn at New Year, and this is ruled by Saturn, the lord of time and responsibility. He also rules over reaping what we have sown.
We had a literal manifestation of that. Back in August 2014 we planted a few wheat ears and were delighted when they grew, so we harvested them, winnowed them and ground six whole ounces into flour. I did feel a bit like the little red hen – (except that I had help processing the wheat) and our neighbour, a commercial farmer, thought we were daft! We made biscuits from the flour on New Year’s Eve, it was a very labourious process, but a rewarding one, eating biscuits using home grown flour and my son loved them. We have planted the remaining wheat seeds back in to our allotment and are hoping for a loaf next year…! Saturn is like that, things can take a long time but they are often worth the wait.
Wishing you all a happy new year
